Golf Cart Oxidation Removal and Paint Correction

from $3493 to 4 hours

Run a finger across a chalky cart panel and it comes back dusty with the color of the paint. That dust is the paint, oxidized by UV and salt until the top layer has broken down into powder. Red carts fade toward pink, black goes gray, and white just looks permanently dirty no matter how often it is washed. No soap fixes it, because the damage is not on the paint. It is the paint.

The fix is mechanical. We machine polish every panel with a dual-action polisher, cutting away the dead oxidized layer to expose the intact paint underneath. On most carts a single-stage correction gets there: one compound, one pass, done carefully panel by panel. The color that comes back tends to surprise people, because they have forgotten what the cart looked like at purchase.

Fresh paint is also naked paint, so we never stop at correction. A six-month synthetic sealant goes on immediately after, giving the new surface real protection while you decide whether to step up to ceramic coating. Correcting paint and leaving it bare in a Charleston summer is a half-finished job, and we do not sell it that way.

Who this is for

Any cart whose color has gone flat, cloudy, or chalky. Kiawah and Seabrook carts are our most frequent correction jobs, because full-sun parking plus marsh humidity is the fastest oxidation recipe on the coast.

Also the owner about to sell: correction is the single most visible upgrade a listing photo can get, which is why it anchors our pre-sale detail too.

How long it takes

Three to four hours as part of The Full Restore. Correction is slow by nature; a polisher rushed across a panel leaves holograms and misses edges, so we book it with room to do it right.

What it costs

Oxidation removal is delivered inside The Full Restore at $349, which includes complete detailing before the machine work and the sealant after. From $349 with the usual modifiers: six-passenger carts add $40, lifted carts add $25, and paint needing more than single-stage work is quoted after we see it in person.

Fair questions

Will the oxidation come back?

The removed layer is gone for good, but the same sun and salt will start on the fresh surface immediately if it is unprotected. That is why the sealant is included, why we suggest rinses between services, and why heavily exposed carts should consider ceramic coating, which stretches protection from months to years.

Can badly faded plastic cowls be corrected too?

Painted cowls, yes. Unpainted textured plastic responds differently and sometimes needs a restorative dressing instead of polish. We will walk the cart with you and point out which panels are which before we start.

Is machine polishing safe on golf cart paint?

In trained hands, yes. Cart panels are often thinner-coated than car panels, which is exactly why we default to the least aggressive single-stage cut that works and measure our progress panel by panel instead of leaning on the machine.

My cart is fiberglass gel coat, not paint. Same process?

Similar and often even more rewarding. Gel coat oxidizes heavily but is thicker than paint, so it usually corrects beautifully. Same booking, we just bring a different compound.
